Does your partner prefer the protection of a cruising yacht while you have a weak spot for flush decked racing yachts ?
Have you reached the point in life where long ocean voyages are on the horizon, but you still are eager to compete in a regatta from time to time ?
Do you use your yacht mainly as a couple but are friends staying over every so often, requiring a wide range of possible accommodations?
Peoples tastes vary, and so do the circumstances in which the yacht is used over time.
Isn’t it a pity then, that even though yacht brands do offer a varied range of possible layouts and options, one always ends up making a choice prior to purchase? These are options that the manufacturer can choose to offer, not those that the client can choose to use in the end. For the latter they’re just a static fact, not delivering to the demands of their dynamic yachting life.
The ALTER EGO 55 finally breaks this trend and puts the power of choice back in the hands of its owners.
The ALTER EGO 55 is a yacht that doesn’t give itself away in a single glance. Looks can deceive...
What may look like a clean racer at one point can become a cozy cruiser in a matter of seconds, at the push of a button and with just a few simple movements...
What enables this metamorphosis is the innovative “floating deck” concept.
By rotating the aft deck up, the right height is created for the gangway - when slid forward on a pair of tracks - to act as a bench. Two backrests can be flipped back from a recess in front of the wheel pedestal to give extra support and protection in adverse weather conditions.
The area below the “floating deck” is for tender storage underway. An integrated davits slides backwards from the aft deck to put the tender in the water.
At anchor however, an additional deck can be created, that is both an extension of the swim platform and connected to the interior accommodation by a pair of sliding hatch doors.
This is the perfect spot to spend the hot hours of the day, close to the water, sheltered from the sun and wind.
A pop-up table adds to its functionality..
When conditions allow - during coastal sailing or regattas - the cockpit can be converted back to a full flush design that shares its looks with a true racing machine. This layout enhances motility and allows better access to the fore deck and walkways.
Layout with additional stern salon.
This area can be used as a library, video (editing) room, office or study room when travelling with school-going children.
Layout with day bed area.
There's direct access to the swim platform abaft of it. The perfect area to spend the hot hours of the day, out of the sun, sheltered from the wind but with a great view and the water so close you could nearly touch it!
Layout with a large guest suite.
This suite has direct access to the swimming platform abaft of it.
Layout with an entirely secluded day bed area.
This allows to keep two single berths at the stern. Perfect when travelling with two teenagers, requiring their own private berths and a private lounging area.
The daybed-area can also be used as a double berth at night, accessible from the outside only. Useful when needing extra capacity for crew without sacrificing your privacy!
